Knee Pain

Boo has been having knee pain off and on for a couple of months now. Usually it was managed by wrapping, icing, and ibuprofen and it hasn’t slowed her down a bit. But last night at practice, it got considerably worse. She couldn’t hardly tumble at all. So, we left practice early and today I took her to see the sports medicine doctor. Boo was really afraid that her season was over.

But, we got good news! The problem with her knee is very common, especially among young girls, and it isn’t even really sports related. Basically her kneecap is slightly off-center from where it should be. The doctor said it is easily fixed with physical therapy to stretch and strengthen the muscles and ligaments on both sides of her knee so that they can hold the kneecap in its proper place better. She shouldn’t even need to wear a brace or anything, though he did recommend some pain medication, especially during therapy. She started the medication today and said that her knee is already feeling better. And physical therapy will start next week. Moreover, for Boo, the best news was that she can continue to train and to compete and she’ll be just fine. Yay!
