Back Walkover? Gone!

Tough practice today. Boo is really struggling with that darned back walkover on beam again. She does it beautifully on the floor beam and on the low beam but it remains ever elusive on the high beam. She just can’t quite make herself do it anymore. No idea what’s gone wrong. She hasn’t had any falls or anything to make her nervous. The only thing different is that she’s been working on starting them with her front leg raised (which is the proper way to do it) and I think maybe starting on one foot is what’s bothering her when it comes to the high beam. That’s just a guess, though. And her coach really had no patience with it today. She told Boo that she could forget about optionals and just stay in level 5 forever if she wasn’t going to do the back walkover. Boo was really upset by that and now she’s at war with herself, nerves and fear vs. indomitable determination. Who will win? Stay tuned...

Boo will win. It just takes time and lots of 'numbers'. Numbers on floor beam, low beam and high beam. Is she allowed to put some mats underneath to start off and make the beam seem lower. Coach is probably testing her desire to overcome not her skill level. Tell her keep plugging away. First step is going for it, second step landing it, third step making it nice. Good luck Boo.

Thank you for the advice and encouragement. I'll be sure to pass that along to Boo. She'll be pleased to know she has "fans" out there supporting her.

I am sure that Boo will get that BWO over on beam when she is ready to. I think the coach was way out of line, but hopefully she was just having a bad day and usually isn't so demeaning and negative.

Boo has come so far so fast and sometimes I think they just need to get skills on their own terms. It isn't a race. Better to get it on her own than to get it with fear in her and have issues with back stuff of beam forever because of it.

I KNOW you will get it Boo, Abby says she knows you will as well. She is still 50/50 with hers as well and somedays it seems so easy and others it is not. Stay positive!!! We are rooting for you.
