Back Walkovers on Beam

Boo is absolutely determined to get her back walkover on the beam. They haven’t worked them at the gym at all since meet season started (they’re working on their routines, instead, understandably) but Boo has still been very nervous about them. Over the weekend, she has been working them on her beam in the basement. She put it on the floor and alternated between doing the back walkovers on the floor tape line and then on the beam. When she got comfortable with that, she moved the beam up to the lowest setting and put her big mat underneath it. It’s up about 8 inches off the ground but with a 6” mat under it, it looks basically the same as on the floor. She’s been working on that since yesterday. I asked her if four days in the gym wasn’t enough since she was doing gymnastics at home on her day off. She said, “Nope!” LOL Needless to say, I am so very proud of her determination and work ethic and her desire to fight through being nervous and accomplish her goal. She is already such a champion in my book.

Cool! I wish we had a couple pieces of equipment at home for my Tori-bug to do some practice at home. She is just constantly flipping and flopping, but we don't have any equipment. Where should I look for good prices? Any suggestions?

I really don't know where to buy beams. You might try Wolverine Athletics or Tiffin Athletic Mats. We've bought a couple of things from them. But DH made Boo's beam using a 4x6x12 piece of wood. We covered it in very thin foam and then lightweight vinyl and he put pieces of 2x4 on each end as "feet" to stabilize it.

That is so neat. My Dad made me a beam too! I hope she gets her back walkover soon!
